This is a quick introduction to one of Instagram’s newest features, called Nametag.
Nametags make it easier for you to follow people and more importantly, it will help you to get more people to follow you!
Nametags are QR codes that you can scan to follow others or others can use to follow you on Instagram.
You have to scan the code through your Instagram app using the instructions you see below.
Grab your phone and let’s get started! (Please note the images below are from an Android mobile phone. If you have an iPhone, go to your iPhone settings to find your Nametag.)
Open your Instagram app and click on the three lines in the upper right-hand corner.
Click on ‘Nametag’ on the right-hand side in the next window.
What you see next is your Nametag. Wasn’t that simple? 😉
Click on the Instagram camera above your name and the color will change to green, purple and orange, red and orange, or purple and blue. Click on ‘Color’ at the top center of your ‘Nametag’ to switch to the ‘Emoji’ Nametag design, which you will see below.
This is what the ‘Emoji’ Nametag looks like. Click on the Instagram camera above your name and you will see what looks like hundreds of emojis to choose from. Click on ‘Emoji’ at the top center of your ‘Nametag’ to switch to the ‘Selfie’ Nametag design, which you will see below.
This is the ‘Selfie’ Nametag below. Click on the Instagram camera above your name and you can choose from a couple of different designs. Click on ‘Retake’ in the upper right-hand corner, position your face in the center and click the camera button to take a selfie. Click on ‘Selfie’ at the top center of your ‘Nametag’ to switch back to the ‘Color’ Nametag design.
What you’ve seen above will help people follow you, but if you click on the ‘Scan a nametag’ words or camera at the bottom of your Nametag, you will be able to scan someone else’s nametag so you can follow them.
This scan a Nametag feature will actually only take people to your profile, but they will have to hit the follow button in order to start following you. You will have to do the same after you scan their nametag if you want to follow them.
Click on ‘Back to nametag’ to return to your Nametag.
When you are on your nametag, you can click on the ‘Share’ (looks like a wishbone) icon in the top right-hand corner to share your Nametag on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, in a text message, in an email, a Twitter direct message, Facebook Messenger, your Facebook Story, on Instagram, or even set it as your Facebook profile photo.
